Mastering the Balanced Market
Much of Canada has shifted to a balanced real estate market with Vancouver favouring the buyer and some of Central Toronto favouring the Seller. The exception is Montreal and Ottawa which are enjoying a strong seller’s markets - they haven’t seen this in a long time.
With these market transitions comes the need to be highly skilled at what you do. Negotiate with your clients to price their listings accurately, negotiate with your buyers to enter the market and take advantage of this opportunity and negotiate on behalf of your buyers and sellers to get deals done. There is no doubt that we are seeing some agents really thriving in these markets and others that can’t get much traction at all.
The theme in the Blog over the past months has been on being excellent at what you do instead of just being good at getting clients. This will become increasingly important as the markets remain relatively soft and we get real competition from the emerging tech brokerages.
What is excellence? In my mind, it is being remarkably and broadly good at what you do. It takes commitment, hard work, perseverance, creativity, deep thinking, open-mindedness, and did I say hard work?
I see a lack of all of these things in many realtors and many people today. It seems to be a societal pandemic. The good news is that this means there is room for people who are showing up to get excellent because compared to the average, you’ll shine like a bright light.
Seth had some great insights on this earlier this week
