The Forest from the Trees
The Forest is the big picture. A beautiful ecosystem that relies on symbiosis, collaboration, and balance. The trees are individual elements within that ecosystem. Some trees thrive and live long and healthy lives. They tower over the other plants and organisms. Some trees don’t get enough light or nutrients and they suffer. This is how ecosystems work.
Real estate is a marketplace the behaves like an ecosystem. Sometimes it is lush and rich and full of growth and sometimes it isn’t. During slow periods, the strong trees work hard to get enough water and nutrients to survive. They reign in their growth, improve their efficiency, and persist no matter what. The other trees wilt and struggle. Some will survive but be weakened and some will succumb to the elements.
This Forest and the Trees metaphor helps us to understand and accept the overall context and interconnectedness of marketplaces. Most of Canada is experiencing a balanced market right now and while sales and prices are down, properties are trading, and some trees are doing just fine.
What does it take to succeed in this market? The agents who are getting deals done now are not waiting for things to happen. They are actively working each day having conversations with prospective buyers and sellers, building strategies for their clients, negotiating transactions and using critical thinking and grit to get deals closed.
It’s hard work but the rewards are exceptional. If you want to be a towering tree, now is the time to be building your professional skills.
