I’m currently reading Theodore Roosevelt’s biography, written by Edmund Morris, and I am continually blown away by Roosevelt’s immense capacity, energy and creativity. Regardless of whether one agrees with his politics, it’s clear that he accomplished an incredible amount. From successfully eradicating corruption out of the New York police force at age 35, to outpacing hunting guides on the western frontier, to reading at least one book per day throughout his entire presidency, Roosevelt is routinely characterized by his ability to get a huge amount done. Needless to say, I’m envious.

For many, having this incredible capacity is the dream. Capacity enables you, not only to accomplish an incredible amount, balance countless passions, and maintain a spirited momentum in life, but also to have a resounding impact on the world.

As I explore Roosevelt’s life, what I’ve realized is that this mighty amount of energy is intrinsically connected by his desire to change the world around him. He was adamant about seeing the flaws, corruptions, inefficiencies, and lost opportunities in the world, and stayed ahead of it by celebrating all the impact he could have by participating in that change.

“Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” – Theodore Roosevelt
