I had the funniest conversation with an agent this week.  He’s speaking to me about hiring The Nature of Real Estate to coach him.  We are having a great conversation.  We are connected and he is speaking freely about himself and his business. He is telling me about a previous coaching experience he had with one of the big national firms.

He’s laughing as he mimics the following conversation:

Him: “My life is a mess”

Coach: “Prospect more”

Him: “My wife is leaving me”

Coach: “Prospect more”

Him: “I’m feeling sick and tired of real estate”

Coach: “Prospect More”

Stressed businessman

If it wasn’t so sad, it would be hilarious.  Of course, he was exaggerating, but not by much.  I hear similar versions of this story constantly.

So let’s talk straight about what coaching is and what it ought to be.

If coaching is merely about accountability, it’s worth about $25 per hour – if that.  You could get a friend, a colleague or even a mirror to do it for free.
Professional coaching is about creating an environment where you can thrive.  Many things get in the way of us living our highest potential and a great coach will help you discover those things and find ways to set them aside so you can get on with reaching your goals.

Most prospecting methods are in conflict with our core values and no one can work effectively in that conflict.  Your coach should be helping you find ways that you can have comfortable natural conversations with people about real estate and develop the meaningful connections and strong relationships critical to success in business and in life.

Coaching is not about prospecting more2
