Reading messages

Suze Cumming | June 11, 2020

If we fail to read a message in its entirety, we make assumptions that aren’t true.

If we respond to the message under the influence of a wrong assumption, we may cause
conflict that could hurt our negotiations (or our relationship).

We are all time pressed much of the time but causing conflict through miscommunication
usually takes significantly more time to repair than reading the message in its entirety before
responding.

I’ve seen a significant increase in this type of rushed behaviour in the past few weeks. These
difficult times call for more attention to the details, not less.
