The Number One Skill You Need Now

It’s not what you think.

It’s not persistence, grit, personality, passion, intelligence, knowledge, experience, or creativity although each of these is helpful. The skill set that highly successful real estate professionals possess is the ability to connect with other people.  

Connection is more than being known, liked, and trusted.   

A genuine connection with another person makes them feel valued, seen, heard, and accepted. It is judgment-free, creates a sense of belonging, increases confidence, and reduces anxiety and defensiveness. People feel felt.   

Learning to create this level of connection will improve your business in several important ways:  

So, more business, more enjoyable clients, and a happier life.  Sounds pretty good, eh? Except that the skill set of building connection is complicated.  

Most people think they are already good at it. This reminds me of the saying, 

“80% of drivers think they are safer than the average”.  

People frequently overestimate their skills. If you don’t have as much business as you want, look to your connection skills for improvement.    

I have built a curriculum for my coaching clients to learn this invaluable skillset. I call this The Alchemy of Connection.

  • People will be open to meeting with you and talking about working with you as their representative (lead conversion) 
  • People will respect your expertise and follow your recommended strategy for listing or buying a home. (process management)
  • Your clients will feel like you have their back and will work collaboratively with you during offer negotiations, thus securing a successful sale. (closing transactions) 
  • Because this skill set is so rare and so valuable, people you connect with, whether they are clients or not, will tell their friends and family how great you are (referrals).
